Greetings from the Shenandoah Valley

Dana and Russ managed to get away for a few days over Memorial Day weekend to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We travelled about 3 hours south into the Virginia Shenandoah Valley and stayed at the Marriot Ranch near Hume, VA. The ranch is the former summer retreat of the Marriot family, of hotel chain fame. The ranch today is run as a B&B and it's still owned by the Marriot family. This is the biggest ranch in the county, covering 4,600 acres (that's about 7.4 square miles). The photo shows the main house, but we actually stayed in the Cottage House just to the left.Aside from the beautiful rolling hills and estates to die for (many "dream-dreams"), there's really only two things here. Horseback riding and vineyards. Dana and I went on a trail ride Saturday afternoon through woods and fields. It was breath taking.

On Sunday morning, we motored around in the Mini to a few wineries to sample the fruits of the land. Cheers!

Yes, the main house and the carriage house, where we stayed, had a wireless router in the room. It worked fine, but it was slow (400 kbps Down, 100 kbps Up). It looked as if access was via a satellite. I can't imagine that there was cable or DSL available there. TV was via DISH Network.
