IMPORTANT!

Is Fenway within walking distance from Pags??? I'm trying to buy tickets for the 2nd of October for me and some of my friends from school and it's completely wrong to go to Boston and not include Pags. Only thing is, I have no clue how to get around the city and want to avoid driving as much as possible.
Boston savvy family, please help!

Cara ... Fenway park (4 Yawkey Way, Boston, MA) is 2.8 miles from Pag's (14 Parmenter Street, Boston, MA). You can get walking directions from Google maps. I did that, and walking the Beacon Street route is 2.8 miles, and should take about 55 minutes.

Or, alternatively, you could take the MBTA subway, from Kenmore square (which is where Fenway is) and go inbound to the Haymarket stop. All on the green line, so no need to do train line change overs. A good idea, except for the massive crowd after a baseball game trying to get on the "T". Something tells me this 15 minute "T" ride would take close to the 55 minutes that it would take to walk.

From Haymarket to Pag's is a 5 minute walk.

Also, there is a 50/50 chance that the green line train you get on at Kenmore will only go as far as Government center. Not a big deal, as Government is the stop before Heymarket. Would add another 5 minutes to your walk to Pag's.

The MBTA cost $2 per person. If you go this route, be sure to get a "charlie ticket" at any "MTBA" station for all your rides. If you try to get a charlie ticket right after the baseball game, forget it, those machine's are 20 people deep.

Getting a charlie ticket is no more complicated than getting cash out of an ATM. The machine takes cash, credit, or debit.

I have no clue what a cab would cost. I've actually never taken a cab in Boston in my life.

Good luck.

It would probably be cheaper, depending on how many friends you brought with you, to take a cab. Cabs are relatively inexpensive if you have at least 3 people. The cabs will usually fit 4 comfortably.

I am sure Mikayla would volunteer to be your personal "T" guide person. You can see Fenway from her dorm so maybe you could meet up with her after your game and she can navigate you around if you are going to do the subway route instead of a cab!

Good Luck!

Also, try the website http://www.hopstop.com/

You plug in the address of where you are, and where you are going, and it gives you exact walking directions + subway directions!

I would literally be lost without it.

Ya, Kristin. I remember the night we followed you on a walk through Boston. I guess that was before you discovered hopstop!

Ha Ha!!!

I'd walk, and if you can hail a taxi along the way, take it. A taxi at Kenmore Square would be hard to find with that crowd. And, as Ralph said, the T will be packed and it will take just as long. It's a nice walk and your friends would get to see more of the town. You can also program your Tom Tom and plan your walk....

Would it be smarter to park near Fenway and take the cab to the north end before the game for dinner? That way we wouldn't be trying to get back to the north end after the game in that crowd...we'd just be fighting it to drive home

Cara .. The game on 2-Oct starts at 7:05 PM, so I'm assuming you'll eat at Pag's first, then go to the game.

If you park near Fenway, you'll have a bear of a time getting out. Kenmore square area after a game is jammed.

If you park near North end, then you have the crowd of Fenway and the "T" rush to deal with to get back to your car, or a 55 minute walk. Both are not so great to deal with.

An alternative is to park half-way inbetween (i.e. Coply Square). That would give you an easy "T" ride to north end for dinner, and easy "T" ride from North end to Fenway for the game. And a shorter walk from Fenway to your car to exit Boston. It would provide a relatively quick access to route 90 (mass pike) for a short trip over to route 93 to get you on your way home.

Oh, and by the way, I think this post now wins the Scaduto blog aware for most comments.

We're talking about Pag's and the Red Sox-- both good topics with this family and both extremely important:)

Hey, i live in Kenmore Square! You can see inside Fenway from the top floor of my building! But anyway, I would strongly suggest not parking too close to Fenway. They jack up the prices of all the parking lots for games and after the games, the place is very similar to a parking lot.

I think it's settled. We're going to park at Copley. It seems like the easiest solution. I've got 2 friends committed and am waiting on Nic and then we're buying tickets:) Anyone who wants to join in on Pag's dinner is more than welcome!!!

um, I have to interject on my behalf and remind everyone that I knew exactly how to get us to Gov. Center and someone else got us lost in Chinatown because nobody would listen to me! Laura will back me up on this!
